Meet David R. TenHulzen, MD, DMD

Dr. TenHulzen is both a Dentist and a Physician. He specializes in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is a specialty of Dentistry that involves cosmetic and reconstructive treatment of the hard and soft tissues of the face, jaws, teeth, and surrounding structures. It is a specialty that integrates Medicine and Dentistry to optimize medical management with surgical skills.

Formal Education

Dr. TenHulzen graduated from Oregon State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Zoology in 1974. For the following year, he performed research in Oceanography, integrating biological science with analytical chemistry. He then attended the School of Dentistry at the Oregon Health Sciences University. In 1979, Dr. TenHulzen graduated “With High Honors,” (Magna cum Laude) with a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree. He then attended Medical School at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, where he received his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in 1982. After completing a one year General Surgery rotating internship, Dr. TenHulzen completed his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in June of 1984, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He then returned to Oregon to start his current practice.

Continuing Education

Dentistry, Medicine, and related disciplines are an ever-changing, constantly-improving environment. Dr. TenHulzen and his staff are committed to continuous improvement through continuing education opportunities, to keep abreast of these changes and advancements. These opportunities include frequent continuing education courses, literature reviews, video tapes, audio tapes, and on-line educational opportunities. They strive to maintain and develop current treatment standards for their patients and for other practitioners. This commitment has earned Dr. TenHulzen the Physician’s Recognition Award for Continuing Education, presented by the American Medical Association.
